OLIVIA MUIR – BRAND CONSULTANT

More than a brand strategist.

I see your whole brand – from the big picture to the detail. From the strategic direction and commercial strategy to the customer experience, visual branding, and marketing.

It's this holistic approach and my ability to balance big ideas and practical execution that sets me apart. I see and connect all the dots to create alignment from the inside out.

MY EXPERIENCE

Interdisciplinary strategic thinker.

For the past two decades, I've worked in branding, marketing, community engagement, design and sales.

I've played in small business, non-profit, government, cultural arts, marketing agencies, and higher education – from running grassroots campaigns on an arts budget (read: innovative!) to leading creative teams working on bespoke projects and national campaigns for leading brands.

I've been a chameleon for most of my career, leaning into different disciplines and borrowing ideas and strategies from one area to enhance another. But it's always centred around brand – whether it's the design, promotion, management, or experience of it.

Brand is so powerful. It's not marketing, it's definitely not advertising, it's not what something looks like, and we can't really control it. It's emotional, largely intangible, and often misunderstood because there's no one way to do it. How wonderfully complex!

At the core of brand, there is a problem to solve. Sometimes, that problem is obvious, and sometimes it's disguised. I love the challenge of uncovering it and solving it. And I use my complimentary skillset to go digging and reveal the answers.

It's hugely satisfying and rewarding, and I get to meet and collaborate with incredible people while I do it.

I've had a few pivotal moments in my career, one of which was in 2011. You can read about that experience soon, when I share my story on the blog.

This moment was a realignment.

I thought I wanted a Hollywood-style advertising career, but a serendipitous exchange with a mentor gave me the course correction I needed.

I want to design and communicate meaningful change. I want to support people and communities in dreaming, designing, and communicating change that advances something greater than ourselves.

And choosing to work with people with a vision means I get to work with warm, ambitious, innovative, and community-minded people.

How I work and show up, AKA, my values.

I describe brand values as how we show up and behave – every day.

They represent the beliefs that are important to us. They're a statement of what we stand for. A benchmark for how we act.

Be curious.

Explore deep and wide. Experiment and ask lots of questions, even if that means coming full circle.

Designing for humans.

I use research and empathy to put people at the heart of brands.

Clients as collaborators.

We’re co-creating – this is an exchange of ideas, knowledge, and ponderings, not a one-way conversation.

Evidence-based decisions.

Decisions backed by research and insights – not just because.

Be the student.

I’m a life-long learner and open to learning every day, from everyone.
